about

'Closer' is about not being able to have physical contact with people in your life during the pandemic. It is about the longing of getting closer to people, yet the uncertainty of where people's boundaries now lie.

Rachel wrote & recorded this track in lockdown between her hometown of Monaghan & Dublin where she is based. Produced, mixed and mastered by Cian Sweeney (1000 Beasts), the track also exhibits the excellent guitar of David Joyce and bass playing by Chris Walsh.

lyrics

Closer

[Verse]
Heard you knockin’ at my door
Don’t know what you’re lookin’ for
Eyes on fire across the room
How can I get close to you?

I play pretend til’ I barricade
Not sure how much more I’ll take
Walls started crumblin’
Play like this and you’ll never win

[Pre Chorus]
I speak in echoes to stay sane
(I speak in echoes to stay sane)
I’m a prisoner of my own game

[Chorus]
‘Can we get a little closer now?’ you say
Now you say
‘I never want to be so far away’
So far away

‘Can we get a little closer now?’ you say
Now you say
‘Oh I know a place where we can both escape’

[Post Chorus]
But can you see me from this distance?

Can you see me from this distance?

[Verse 2]
Enjoyin’ easy company
Blurry beautiful’s a sight you have to see
And where do I go? I’ll never know
And how do you find me when I don’t show?

[Pre Chorus]
I speak in echoes to stay sane
(I speak in echoes to stay sane)
I’m a prisoner of my own game

[Chorus]
‘Can we get a little closer now?’ you say
‘I never want to be so far away’
Oh x2

‘Can we get a little closer now?’ Oh now you say
‘I never want to be so far away’

‘Can we get a little closer now?’ you say
‘Oh I know a place where we can both escape’

(Can you see me from this distance?)
Oh ‘can we get a little closer now today?’
(Can you see me from this distance?)
Oh ‘I never want this thing to fade away’

[Post Chorus]
Can you see me from this distance? (Can you see me from this distance?)
